Shelly scowled. “But I always have to share!” she complained. “At home, I share with Tempest and Gale. At school, I share with Coral and Angel.” She crossed her paws. “Sometimes I get so sick of sharing!”

Mom kissed Shelly’s forehead. “I can understand that,” she purred. “If you want to do this job all by yourself, it is totally your decision. I will support you no matter what.” She kissed her daughter again. “And I know your best friends will be on your side no matter what, too. You three have been working and playing together since you were little kittens. I don’t think there’s anything that could change that.”

Now Shelly felt paw-ful. Mom was right. Angel and Coral were good friends. They were already on her side—even when she was telling them to go away.

Shelly knew she had to do something. “I can’t just let them leave like this,” she said.

Mom smiled. Even Bubbles seemed to nod his head.

“They’re my best friends,” Shelly said. She grabbed the silver leash. “Let’s go, boy. We have to catch up with them.”
